POLARIS HOCKEY BLAST 2012 – VOLUNTEER INFORMATION

Below is a list of all Polaris Hockey Blast volunteer roles available for both

      Hockey Day Minnesota -- Saturday, January 21

      Pond Hockey North American Championship -- Friday, January 20 - Sunday, January 22

*some roles only apply for Hockey Day Minnesota and will only take place on Saturday. Please note below which roles occur on which days

Individuals will be able to select their top three volunteer positions. We will do our best to accommodate first choices, but cannot guarantee assignments. Assignments are limited and based on first come, first served basis. Volunteers will be notified of their final assignment/s closer to the event.  

Tournament Set-up: estimated early January (depends on when ice freezes)
Friday, January 20: A.M. and P.M. shifts available
Saturday, January 21: A.M. and P.M. shifts available
Sunday, January 22: AM. and P.M. shift available
Tournament Tear-down: directly following event on Sunday, January 22 and Monday, January 23

Available Volunteer Positions*All positions require volunteers to be 16 years or older except where noted

  • A-Team (Fri, Sat, Sun):
    Special Team designated to be on-call and assist as needed. Responsibilities may include running scores, shoveling rinks, etc. 
  • Fire Pit Manager (Sat only):
    Responsible for managing fire pits at Hockey Day Minnesota - keeping pits burning and spectators safe.
  • Ice Maintenance (Fri, Sat, Sun):
    Responsible for maintaining ice rinks including shoveling, filling cracks, etc.
  • Information Booth (Fri, Sat, Sun):
    Responsible for directing participants and spectators around event grounds as well as answering general questions.
  • Parking Lot Attendant (Sat only):
    Attendants will be stationed in one of the remote parking lots where they will take a shuttle to the event grounds. Responsible for greeting spectators, checking parking, permits, and managing traffic flow.
  • Pond Rink Floater (Fri, Sat, Sun):
    Two volunteers per Pond Hockey rink will monitor sidelines to ensure safety of spectators and participants.
  • Referee - with previous experience / with NO previous experience  (Fri, Sat, Sun):
    Responsible for officiating Pond Hockey games to ensure fair, safe play. Age restrictions of 18+
  • Security Patrol (Fri, Sat, Sun):
    Responsible for securing the perimeter of the event.
  • Special Events (Dates TBD):
    To assist at special events prior/during the event.
  • Ticket Sales (Sat only):
    Responsible for on-site Hockey Day Minnesota ticket sales and will call.
  • Ticket Takers (Sat only):
    Volunteers will be stationed at bleachers and will take tickets in one of three locations for the Hockey Day Minnesota featured games.
  • Tournament Set-up (early Jan):
    Set up will begin in early January - as soon as the ice is thick enough.  Different responsibilities include set-up of perimeter fencing, building of pond hockey rinks, on-call shovel team, and signage installation. Volunteers must be willing to work with timeline as weather dictates and be able to handle physical labor. 
  • Tournament Tear-down (Sun, Mon):
    Responsible for dismantling pond hockey rinks, removing perimeter fencing, taking down signage, etc. Tear down will begin following the closing ceremony on Sunday and the following day, Monday January 23. Must be able to handle physical labor. 
  • VIP Warming House Support (Sat only):
    Responsible for checking VIP wristbands and overseeing VIP area at Hockey Day Minnesota.
  • Volunteer Check-in (Fri, Sat, Sun):
    Responsible for checking volunteers in, distributing uniform package, and directing volunteers to their posts.
